I knew the farewell fuck you’s from the Bush Junta were going to come hard and fast, but the fact that the Democratic Party and the so-called progressive blogosphere are failing to push back on this is obscene. Melissa McEwan sounds off — again — regarding a renewed assault on women’s health care:
The rule, which which would redefine birth control as abortion and pose a signficant threat to women’s healthcare, has officially been proposed, and the spin is that it’s all about a conscience clause (and you know how I feel about those) and providing protection to healthcare workers “who refuse to participate in abortions because of religious or moral objections.”
Today they refuse to perform procedures based on “moral objections” to them. Tomorrow, they refuse to perform procedures based on moral objections to the people who want or need the procedure (i.e. “He’s a Jew and damned to hell,” or “She’s not a real Christian because she’s a Catholic,” or “He told me he’s an atheist so I’m going to let him die.”).
This is a slippery slope, with no end in sight.
