Michele above is incorrect. The keffiyah is not exclusive to Palestinians, it is worn all over the middle east (Morocco to Iran) and is typically a cultural phenomenon. Different regions tend to use different colors there are no real rules. People in the Levant (Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan) tend to wear a black and white or red and white Keffiyah. In Saudi Arabia it is usually solid white, Yemen and Oman have more blues and greens. Black/White and Red/ White are the most popular in the majority of the region. US and British troops can often be seen wearing them as a form of protection from the weather (as is their use). Christian Arabs, Muslim Arabs and Jewish Arabs all wear this item.
